We are in the Arabian Desert.
Crisp, hot air. Ibex prancing on craggy cliffs. Plucky shrubs. Frankincense.
And sand. Lots of sand.
Dear reader, today we are tasting Pretzel Sand.

The first thing to note about this treat is the graphic design. Look how great the colour palette is. The graphics are on-point.
We open the box. It contains 6 little baggies with 2 cookies in each. Great for packing in a lunchbox for a kid – or for yourself!

The cookies themselves smell of vanilla, of plain milky ice cream.
Bite in, and the cookie makes a hard crunch sound. The texture is a bit like those rectangular “tea biscuits” with scalloped edges.
Inside, there is a thin smear of filling. Just a hint:

The biscuit tastes good. There is a light vanilla flavour – tasty and subtle. The filling is very salty. I didn’t get a mouthful of sand, but that saltiness did leave me parched.
A mystery friend of the blog (who likes salty snacks and delicate flavours) really liked them. Personally, I can appreciate that these cookies are doing their thing well. It’s just not my thing.
The aftertaste is a light, wheaty biscuit flavour.
I grabbed this snack for the same reason as I grabbed every other one on this site: the weird name! Why would anyone name a cookie “Pretzel Sand”?
It turns out that “Pretzel Sand” is short for “Pretzel Sandwich“. There are other Japanese products with the same naming pattern, and they are all cookie sandwiches like Oreos.
Final verdict for these: 🍪🍪🍪🍪 out of 5 cookies.
